Selfie motivated

I’ve gone and turned into one of those people who upload selfies to Instagram, and I love it!

When you look at Instagram you see lots of people running accounts that are full of their selfies and in many cases it’s clear as to their motivation for doing it. And that’s fine, although maybe a bit worrying if it becomes an obsession, or leads to body image issues.

For me, my selfies are there for a reason, they motivate me, this is because I make a point of adding one each time I’ve been to the gym. I joined in December and so far I’m up to “Post gym selfie No.16.”

Running my own business, self motivation is really important to me, and to give it a boost I decided in the depths of winter to re-plan my working day. I’ve included early morning gym sessions during the course of my week, and they are proving to be a wonderful way to start my day.

I get the following benefits from doing this:

  • A defined start to my day
  • It gets me up and out of the house
  • I achieve something positive at the start of my day
  • I feel great afterwards
  • As I’m exercising I think through my to do list
  • My fitness is improving

This works for me, and I know my productivity and motivation has flourished since I’ve adopted this way of managing my time.

I’m not preaching that you should join a gym. However, if you are running your own business it’s worth taking time to think about how you work. If like me you find you want to improve your productivity and/or motivation, try different things to see what works for you.

After all one of the big advantages of being your own boss is that you get to make your own rules, and set your own work patterns. For me it’s the early morning gym sessions, that kick start my day.

As for my post gym selfies, they really help me. With each one I post I’m sharing my small achievement. Having my posts liked by other gym goers is more than flattering, it gives me encouragement to keep going. And ultimately it’s a bit of fun!

If you’ve developed routines to make you more productive and motivated, please feel free to share them as a comment.
